Marmelo & Ispolini Have to Be Scanned by Vets before Melbourne Cup
Marmelo and Ispolini, two racehorses signed up for the Melbourne Cup, have to undergo scans by vets before being allowed to race. The two British thoroughbreds will be scanned for “suspected soreness” after Victoria stewards inspected them. As part of the lead up to the Melbourne Cup, all horses have to be checked. In a report by the stewards, it was recommended that the horse be examined further.
The horses’ owners are reportedly flying to Australia to hear the results. In the case of Marmelo, he was referred to the University of Melbourne’s Equine Clinic. Meanwhile, Ispolini was referred to the Ballarat Equine Clinic. Both horses will have to pass the examinations if they hope to run at the carnival.
Marmelo & Ispolini Favourites for Race 7
While Ispolini has odds of 21.00, Marmelo is sitting pretty on 19.00. To be fair, they are fairly young and will probably only reach peak racing in two years or so. However, the fact that they needed further examination could pull them out of the race altogether. After all, healthy horses are required to have no injuries or history of doping.
As for the other horses, Constantinople is leading the odds, along with Mer De Glase and Cross Counter. Interestingly enough, Cross Counter and Southern France also underwent scans. They were cleared on course.
