George Russell Gets Another Win at the Monaco Virtual GP
With a 39-second lead and just one mandatory stop, George Russell nabbed another win on the Monaco Virtual GP. While he’s never scored a point in the real race in F1 or F2, Russell is proving to have some serious skill online. Of course, he had to beat Charles Leclerc to the top spot, which made for some exciting viewing.
Meanwhile, Leclerc and Mercedes’ reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez contested for second place. However, the duo collided in the third-last lap at the exit of the tunnel, and Gutierrez nabbed second place. This was Gutierrez’s best result, and Leclerc got third place, marking his fifth podium finish in the series.
Monaco Virtual GP Race Highlights
During the Monaco Virtual GP, many drivers faced challenges on the track. First, Pietro Fittipaldi took pole position after beating out Russell by four-tenths. But, his lead was short-lived, and Russell jumped past on the first corner to take the lead. Meanwhile, Alex Albon suffered a spin after colliding with Gutierrez.
For the rest of the action-packed race, drivers across the board struggled. Including Valterri Bottas in his first appearance, who spun down to the last place after a clash with Antonio Giovinazzi. Bottas managed a recovery but ended 11th.
Another first-timer in the virtual series, Esteban Ocon, qualified in 17th but failed to start the race. Also, Ex-F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi got disqualified for racking up too many corner-cutting penalties. Watch the highlights below:
F1 Current Standings
In the past six races, both Leclerc and Russell have garnered two wins, while Guanya Zhou and Alex Albon each have one. During the pandemic, video games like F1 2019 have dominated betting markets and ensured rapid growth for eSports. But what about the future of F1?
Unfortunately, there are no answers yet as most host countries are still in lockdown. So, online racing is the only option right now.
